Patient Affairs and Advocacy Manager

Job description

Site Name: Canada - Ontario - Mississauga
Posted Date: Mar 25 2025

If you are a forward-thinking, purpose-driven leader with a passion for meaningful engagement with patients and patient organizations, this is an exciting opportunity to shape the future of patient collaboration at GSK. As Manager, Patient Affairs and Advocacy, you will play a pivotal role in advancing a bold and evolving approach to patient engagement—helping embed the patient voice across our current and future therapeutic areas. Reporting to Hélène Pineau, National Director, Patient Affairs and Advocacy, you’ll contribute to enterprise-level impact by ensuring our partnerships with patient organizations are strategic, enduring, and built on mutual value. You’ll be part of a high-performing, ambitious team that values innovation, collaboration, and a growth mindset in pursuit of better outcomes for patients.

At the heart of this role is championing the patient perspective—translating lived experiences into meaningful insights that drive innovation, inform strategy, and strengthen trust across the healthcare ecosystem. You will be at the forefront of redefining patient advocacy at GSK, shifting from traditional approaches to integrated, people-centric ways of working that shape decision-making across the full lifecycle of our medicines.

We’re seeking a leader who brings a growth mindset, a strong sense of ownership, and the curiosity to challenge conventional thinking to our unique team. You thrive in complexity, act with purpose, and are energized by building strategic relationships that create lasting value. If you’re a solutions-oriented professional who sees every interaction as an opportunity to make a meaningful difference, this role offers the platform to deliver impact at scale—for patients, partners, and the broader healthcare system.

Thrive in an environment defined by our Culture of Ambition for Patients, Doing the Right Thing, and Being Accountable for Impact—where collaboration, continuous learning, and the relentless pursuit of what’s right for patients are at the core of how we work. If you’re ready to lead with purpose and drive meaningful change, we’d be proud to have you on our team.

Responsibilities:

  • Cultivate and sustain trusted, strategic relationships with patients and patient organizations by aligning on expectations, addressing evolving needs, and advancing shared objectives.

  • Serve as the central coordination point for day-to-day engagement with patient organizations, ensuring consistency, transparency, and responsiveness in all interactions.

  • Lead funding and scientific engagement processes with patient organizations, ensuring alignment with governance requirements and ethical standards.

  • Facilitate meaningful involvement of patient organizations in our research and development efforts through close collaboration with both local (LOC) and global teams.

  • Drive policy-shaping conversations, lead insight generation, and co-create disease awareness initiatives that advance mutual goals and improve patient outcomes.

  • Design and deliver integrated advocacy plans that support GSK’s enterprise priorities, aligning external influence with internal strategy.

  • Oversee the implementation and ongoing management of GSK’s Disclosure Commitment, ensuring accountability and compliance with external transparency expectations.

  • Develop, manage, and communicate operating budgets; oversee end-to-end financial processes including compliance system navigation and funding request approvals.

  • Lead key administrative processes, including contracting with patient organizations, collaboration with the grants team, compliance adherence, training, and expense management.

  • Act as a trusted Subject Matter Expert, advising cross-functional teams and senior leaders on GSK’s approach to patient engagement and representing the function in strategic discussions.

Qualifications:

Candidates should have graduate-level education in the field of communication, political science or health policy.

  • Demonstrated excellence in interpersonal, communication, negotiation, and influencing skills, with the ability to build trust and alignment across diverse stakeholders.

  • Proven track record of leading complex projects and driving outcomes within a cross-functional, matrixed team environment.

  • Strong experience in strategic customer relationship management and contact planning, with a focus on long-term value creation.

  • Exceptional technical writing and verbal communication capabilities, including the ability to distill complexity and deliver high-impact presentations.

  • Broad understanding of healthcare systems, patient advocacy, and the pharmaceutical or life sciences industry.

  • Sound knowledge of Canadian Health Technology Assessment (HTA) bodies and frameworks—including CADTH, INESSS, and NACI—from a strategic and policy-oriented perspective.

  • Demonstrated strategic agility, with commercial acumen extending beyond government affairs into enterprise-level decision-making.

  • Bilingualism in English and French is considered a strong asset.

  • This position is open to applicants legally authorized to work in Canada.

  • This position is car eligible. *

*This position requires the employee to drive routinely on Company business and allows for the provision of a company-leased vehicle. However, to be eligible for this position and a company vehicle, GSK will need to obtain acceptable results from a license verification inquiry and driver’s abstract review against its Safe Driver Program requirements.
