Principal Generative AI Engineer – GSC AIML & Decision Sciences
We are seeking a visionary Principal Generative AI Engineer to integrate our newly formed Generative AI team, with a focus on the Global Supply Chain (GSC). This role requires a proven leader with expertise in delivering complex AI solutions and AI Agents using large language models. As Principal Engineer, you will be driving our overall Generative AI strategy and Roadmap, ensuring we stay at the forefront of innovation in agentic AI.
About the role
Support the creation of a global team of Generative AI specialists to deliver impactful business value throughout GSK Enterprise AI, with a focus on the Global Supply Chain. Ideally, you (or a team you've supervised) will have successfully launched a complex generative AI solution integrating diverse source systems, structured/unstructured/graph/vector stores/graph/RAG, and a user-friendly UX. Experience establishing a robust AgentOps and Responsible AI practice is highly desirable. You will also ensure the team adheres to modern agile software delivery standards. Effective management of budget and internal resources will be critical to achieving GSC's ambitious Gen AI objectives.

About the responsibilities
Strategic Vision & Planning
· Develop and manage our Generative AI platform roadmap and manage our solution space, aligning with business objectives and strategic priorities.
Leadership and Team Management
· Manage the budget of capabilities and solutions, and hire and develop Generative AI talent globally.
· Foster innovation within the team to support a collaborative work environment.
· Contribute to talent development and continuous learning opportunities within the team.
· Lead internal and external developers to deliver on the Generative AI roadmap, providing technical guidance.
Innovation & Technical Expertise
· Stay informed on the latest research and development in the field of Generative AI, and support buy vs build discussions based on informed assessments.
· Provide deep technical expertise in Generative AI technologies and tools.
· Implement state-of-the-art GenAI & Agents technologies and best practices.
· Serve as a subject matter expert for complex technical issues and provide hands-on support.
Collaboration and Stakeholder Management
· Educate technical and business leaders on the potential of Generative AI, and co-create with the business appropriate use-cases that will benefit from Generative AI.
· Collaborate with other AI teams to intake requirements and with central Architecture teams to align on Generative AI platform approvals.
Technical Governance and Excellence
· Create technical standards and blueprints for Generative AI scenarios, ensuring alignment with security, compliance, and ethical considerations.
· Adhere and drive compliance to Responsible AI practices that keep our GenAI Solutions safe and grounded.
· Drive strong software development standards using Devops/LLMops, and promote the development of scalable, maintainable, and well-documented solutions.
About you
Education and Experience
· A higher degree (PhD preferred) in Engineering, Statistics, Data Science, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, Physics, Bioinformatics, or related quantitative field.
· Experience managing, attracting, and developing technical talent.
· Deep understanding of LLMs fine-tuning and/or training lifecycle (LLMops).
· Fluency in English
· Experience writing and presenting papers, documentation, and presentations to explain work.
Technical Skills
· Extensive knowledge of cloud services and tools (Azure preferred), including Azure Machine Learning, Vertex AI, AI Search, Databricks, Mosaic ML, Genie, Webapps, Azure Service bus Azure DevOps, Azure CLI, Azure AI services, App Insights and Azure OpenAI.
· Extensive knowledge of LLM python libraries: langchain, langGraph, promptflow, semantic kernel, Autogen
· Good Software engineering background, (developing application, API, frontend integration, security best practices, experience with fastAPI, Asyncio is a plus)
· Strong experience with Gen AI model deployment and monitoring (CI/CD, Weight&Biases GitHub pipelines is a plus)
· Advanced understanding of security, compliance, and ethical considerations in AI.

· Demonstrate a combination of business focus, strong analytical and problem-solving skills and programming knowledge to be able to quickly cycle hypothesis through the discovery phase of the project
· Excellent leadership, communication, and collaboration skills.
· Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
· Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a dynamic environment.
· Proven track record of driving innovation and continuous improvement.
· Excellent written and communications skills to report back complex findings in a clear, structured manner.
