Job description

Site Name: Belgium-Rixensart

Help us get ahead of disease together with our Internship Programme


Education required: You are regularly enrolled in a Master’s in Chemical Engineering, Bioengineering, Biology or similar master course in an Educational Establishment located in Europe.
Language requirement: English (must), French and/or Italian are a plus.
Other requirements: Skills in analysing data in Excel, Matlab or other data analysis/postprocessing software; understanding of good laboratory practice; knowledge in heat and mass transfer phenomena. 
Expected start date: As soon as possible
Duration: Minimum 6 months
Work arrangements: On site (Rixensart, Belgium)
Requisite: The internship must be mandatory & done in the framework of the curriculum, for which an agreement must be signed between GSK, the student and the Educational Establishment.
Remuneration: according to Belgian legal requirements, the internship will not be paid. However, some expenses will be reimbursed.

What will you do? 

  • Perform an exhaustive bibliography on bulk freeze-drying; 

  • Propose experimental strategies, perform experiments and analyse data to characterize heat transfer in bulk freeze-drying;

  • Propose experimental strategies, perform experiments and analyse data to characterize mass transfer in bulk freeze-drying;

  • Final report of the activities (in English).

What are we looking for? 

  • Passion for research, hard-worker; 

  • Interest in the pharmaceutical world; 

  • Knowledge of thermodynamics, heat and mass transport phenomena is a must; knowledge in polymer science is a plus; 

  • Quick learner, adaptable to stand alone work or work within a multicultural team.

  • Use of Excel; knowledge in programming languages and modelling software (e.g. Matlab); basic knowledge in the graphic interface development;

  • Adaptability to change and working under pressure

  • Excellent communication skills 

  • Strong problem-solving skills driven by curiosity
